microSD Express Price Tracker
The Switch 2 storage tax, charted: launch premium, the January dip nobody caught, and the AI memory crunch that ate the NAND. Meesh keeps the receipts so you know what a good price looks like today.
“The AI data centers ate the NAND. Meesh is not amused.”

Launch premium
Early-adopter phase — limited production lines, Switch 2 demand, premium baseline.
| 256GB | $60–$80 | SanDisk Express · Lexar Play Pro |
| 512GB | $120–$125 | Lexar 512GB baseline |
| 1TB | $190–$200 | Lexar Play Pro 1TB |
The January dip
Private labels (Onn) + mainstream entries (Samsung P9) briefly compressed prices.
| 256GB | $35–$49 | Walmart Onn · SanDisk promos |
| 512GB | $85–$98 | Onn 512GB · Samsung P9 |
| 1TB | $170–$180 | Lexar third-party deals |
The memory crisis
AI data centers monopolized NAND supply; consumer contract prices surged up to 90%. Stockouts are routine.
| 256GB | $60–$100 | Samsung (Nintendo) $59.99 · SanDisk $73 · Lexar $79.99 |
| 512GB | $85–$200 | onn $85 · Lexar Play Pro $109.99 sale · SanDisk $199.99 |
| 1TB | $300–$400 | Lexar Play Pro $315–$319 |
Outlook
Prices are expected to stay high and volatile for 1–2 years. Real relief is not projected until new NAND fabs come online in late 2027–2028. Until then: buy the dip when you see it.
Meesh's advice: your Switch 2 games don't care what the card cost. Buy the dip, skip the scalpers, and keep an eye on this page.
The brand decoder: who actually makes your card
updated Aug 14, 2026The store-brand secret: Walmart's onn, GameStop's house cards, and Best Buy's NEXT are all rebadged Longsys : the company that owns Lexar (confirmed by manufacturer ID 0xad). Same silicon, cheaper badge.
Meesh's take: pay for the card, not the sticker.
- Black Friday 2025: SanDisk 512GB hit $89.24 : a dip before the dip (Amazon purchase receipt).
- The Nintendo-licensed Samsung 256GB has held ~$59 since June 2025: the one card the shortage never touched (Walmart launch receipt vs today's Amazon listing).
- 128GB is the STABLE tier: launched ~$45 (May 2025), all-time low $34.20 (Dec 2025), never spiked. Team Group 128GB spotted at $34.99 via Best Buy marketplace (3rd-party seller. Outside our 1P-only tracking).
- The GameStop glitch: Dec 13, 2025. Their 512GB Express card (a Lexar inside, see the decoder above) rang up at $20.00 instead of $99.99. A price mistake for the history books.
- The Costco anomaly: June 2026, mid-crisis, Costco sold the Lexar Play PRO 1TB at $179.99, below its own 2025 launch price. Sold out fast. (Costco receipt, item 1966083: yes, we ordered one.)
- The Woot flash: Aug 2026. The price-locked Samsung 256GB finally blinked: $35.19 with a coupon ($30.79 for first-time Woot buyers). The asterisks: unused returns in bulk packaging, not retail stock. And gone in ~3 minutesper IGN's comment section. The ~$59 shelf price never moved; the crack came through the liquidation channel, and demand ate it instantly. (via IGN, called in by Field Scout #001)
- The Walmart onn sighting: Sep 4, 2026. The store-brand 512GB Express (a Longsys card inside) listed at $85, the January-dip price back in the middle of the crisis. One listing, unverified, and onn stock is famously here-then-gone. A data point, not a trend. (Called in by Field Scout #001)
- Best Buy 1P sweep, Sep 5, 2026 (Labor Day weekend): Lexar Play Pro 512GB $109.99 (comp. $149.99) and 256GB $79.99; SanDisk 256GB $73.05 and 512GB $199.99; Lexar Play Pro 1TB $314.95–$319; the Nintendo-licensed Samsung 256GB still $59.99. Samsung P9 floats above everyone: 256GB $153.99, 512GB $319.99. Team Group's $34.99 128GB is a marketplace seller again.
